The Snowy Mountains are the highest part of the Great Dividing Range and are located in south-western New South Wales. The  Kosciusko National Park covers most of the mountains and it is the largest park in New South Wales (6900 sq km/2690 sq ml). The region is well known as a winter haven for those who enjoy what winter in the mountains has to offer. The Snowy Mountains are also popular in the summer months, for their spectacular scenery, fauna and flora. Australia’s highest peak Mt. Kosciusko, with its 2228m (7308ft), is located in the heart of the Snowy Mountains, and to take a bush walk to the summit is one of the most popular activities.

The main town of the mountain region is Jindabyne, which is nestled around the edge of  beautiful
Lake Jindabyne and it is a popular tourist destination where visitors enjoy the unique scenery, and an
opportunity for a variety of winter and summer sporting and cultural activities, and its higher altitude and healthy climate.

The township of Jindabyne has a population of 3500 residents and in summer a variety of activities are offered, such as: golf, water skiing, sailing, boating, trout fishing, and for those who prefer higher altitude activities, there are various tracks for bike riders as well as for bush walkers and mountaineers. For those who like to visit us in winter, Jindabyne is the gateway to the New South Wales snowfields of Thredbo, Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Mt. Blue Cow  Guthega and Charlotte Pass.

For those who are visiting Snowy Mountains in Winter, the snowfields are only 35 minutes drive from Jindabyne, or alternatively the Ski Tube, which is only 15 minutes out of town on your way to Thredbo, will take you from Bullocks Flat up to Perisher Blue Ski Resort in about 15 minutes. Up in the snowfields of Perisher Blue, Charlotte Pass and Thredbo, there are numerous cross-country tracks to cater for all levels of skill, and if you are a downhill skier or snow boarder, the mountains can offer you world class facilities. Various café outlets, eateries and restaurants will offer you refreshments suitable to your needs. If you choose to drive up to the mountains yourself, all ski resorts offer you a free parking except Charlotte Pass Ski Resort which in winter is not accessible by car (see our link on the left).
